Movie Review: Quantum of Solace

I was super-excited to go and see the newest James Bond movie, and I wasn’t disappointed. This one, still starring Daniel Craig, was about 30 minutes shorter than Casino Royale, but it was still pretty much non-stop action. Let’s get into it (as always, I would avoid reading this until after you’ve seen the movie):

  • Music: The opening theme, performed by Alicia Keys, wasn’t my favorite. That particular honor still goes to the theme from Live and Let Die (my favorite Bond film of all time). However, I really liked the visual sequence that went along with it. The music in the film was your typical action-movie composed soundtrack, quite unremarkable but still good, I suppose. Of course, the original Bond theme makes it’s appearance at the end. B
  • Acting: I can’t say it enough…I love Daniel Craig. Honestly, could you seriously look into those blue eyes and not do anything he asked? I couldn’t. The Bond girl (Olga Kurylenko) was a nice change of pace, though she reminded me a little of Vesper from Casino Royale (which was probably the point), and of course the wonderful Judi Dench reprised her role of M. The only criticism I would make of the acting is that during the points of the movie where Bond is supposedly showing real emotion, Craig doesn’t quite get there, in my opinion. A
  • Plot: This movie picks up right where Casino Royale left off, and it does a good job of continuing the story. I like how they left it a little open for the next movie (scheduled to come out in 2010). A

Overall, Quantum of Solace gets a 9 out of 10 in my book.
