Minnesota Cuisine
Throughout my time living in Minnesota, I’ve come to realize that Minnesotans eat food that I rarely, if ever, see in the rest of the country.
For example, I was at a potluck for my sister’s Buffalo HS Marching Band tonight and several classic ‘Minnesota cuisine’ dishes were present:
1. Barbeque sauce and any processed meat (meatballs, sausage)
2. Several ‘hot dishes’ including hamburger, overcooked pasta, and either cheese sauce or tomato sauce.
3. Layered Jello (I tried a 7-layer one that really had 7 different colors of Jello. It was interesting)
4. This wasn’t there, but tater tot ‘hot dish’ has to be on the list. I have never seen this outside of MN, and honestly, I can’t make myself eat it.
I have come to a main conclusion about MN Cuisine: it is bland. My dad and I have decided that if it contains salt or any other seasoning, it’s probably too spicy for Minnesotans. Sorry, but in my experience this is sad but true.
Luckily, this phenomenon seems to be mainly restricted to the over-30 set, meaning most of my MN friends actually appreciate their food tasting like something other than tater tots, ketchup, or hamburger.
Thus ends the rant on Minnesota Cuisine.
