Mindless Self Indulgence

Tonight, as a birthday present to myself, my sister and I went to see Mindless Self Indulgence at First Ave down in Minneapolis.

They were preceded by two opening bands. I had never heard of Dirty Little Rabbits, but they were pretty good. I had heard of The Birthday Massacre, and they were excellent. I especially liked their lead guitarist…he had a mohawk and great stage presence.

The main act was onstage about 8 PM (since it was an all-ages show, the doors were at 5 and the music started at 6). It was completely sold out, with roughly 900 people packed into the main stage area. I literally could not move.

To make a long story short, MSI was amazing. Quite possibly the best musical act I have ever seen (granted, this was my first “REAL” rock concert, but still). They played songs from four different albums: Tight (Tornado), Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy (many, including I Hate Jimmy Page to close the show, Bitches, Planet of the Apes, and others), You’ll Rebel to Anything (Shut Me Up to open the show [I was so excited since that’s my favorite MSI song], 1989, Stupid MF, and basically half the album), and IF (their new album. I’m not sure of the song names from this album).

Oh, Jimmy. I love him. I would totally hit that. He has so much energy that it’s not even funny, and he cracked a couple of jokes that were just hilarious. The audience was eating out of the palm of his…uh…hand. Yeah, hand. Let’s go with that.

All in all, it was a great night and I will definitely go and see them next time they play a show in the Twin Cities or wherever I’m at at that time.

Peace!
